Today is Vasant Panchami, the festival for Saraswati, the goddess of Knowledge and Arts. I wore yellow and went to the temple to worship with my sister. This year it is a very special festival for me, Diary, because it is a day to celebrate reading and writing, the things you need for education. Many young children are given their first lessons on this day; I am older, but it is just as important. I said the prayer to Saraswati with special gladness and hope.
"May Goddess Saraswati,
Who is fair like the jasmine-colored moon,
Whose pure white garland is like frosted dew,
And who is dressed in radiant white clothing;
On whose beautiful arm rests the musical veena
And whose throne is a white lotus flower;
Who is surrounded and respected by the gods:
May you take away my weariness, laziness, and ignorance."
I want to be a good student and grow smart and strong. I want to know so many things about life, so that I can be wise in choosing how to live my own.
